Learning from an Expert
Sequence Dancing
Although you can learn sequence dancing just by watching others, most dancers take some form of instruction.
One alternative is to take private lessons from a teacher of dancing. Individual instruction is more expensive but progress will be more rapid since faults in technique can be corrected at an early stage.
The most popular way of learning, however, particularly for the more mature is to attend group teaching sessions operated on a regular basis by a qualified dance teacher. here the most popular dances are stepped through and then practiced by the class as a whole. The repertoire is gradually extended with on-going discussion of theory and technique - during the dances the teacher will often call out the various dancing figures to remind couples of what comes next.
Even studying with a teacher you will make more progress if you have something to study outside the dancing session. You may come away from the class saying, "We've almost mastered this dance - lets try it out at home," only to find that neither of you can remember the sequence with certainty. DVD's and Books will help out here!
